Hello everyone,
I was making the rounds this Saturday and came upon a garage sale with a gorgeous antique dresser. Beautiful lines, nice drawers just a nice gem. But then of course, it had already been sold. Grrrr...the real kicker??? Only $40!!! I hate that. I'm still slowly plugging away at some larger pieces. The holiday season just really takes a toll on the time I can spend in the garage or outdoors. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. A little late I know. Hey, what can I say? :)

Newest finished project
I've been crafting my butt of in anticipation for Halloween, which is my favorite holiday. I am loving that the weather is cooling down it so much easier to work on the furniture. Here is a sweet pair of endtables or what have you just finished. Have a good weekend.

New and random
The 7 layers of hell. |
Working on a custom piece and after 7 layers of stain/poly I had to completely start the top all over. I couldn't strip it though so I sanded through all those layers. Grrrr..... The stupid AZ heat is cutting into my work, all the rest is done. Picked up two new end tables that I can't wait to work on when the heat subsides. Took a family trip to CA for Disneyland and Newport Beach. Now I need a "grown up" vacation. My son turned 3 yesterday and we are celebrating today. Random, random. Have a great weekend!

What I am working on lately
I haven't been able to finish to many pieces because of the heat and humidity here in AZ. Heat I'm used to humidity NO. So I always seem to second guess my judgement. Which my husband doesn't help with at all. This time I think this set is going to make some special girl very happy. I smile just looking at all that glitter. Love the color it's Behr Royal Purple and Silver Shimmer Glitter Specialty Finish by Martha. Have a good weekend.

If I was half as good at blogging as I was at furniture...
Oh I am so horribly bad about blogging. I feel like I don't know what I am doing and it looks like crap, which it does. I'm wondering how much it would cost to hire a web designer/host? Is that what you even call it??? I have so many projects in the garage and the weather is making it absolutely impossible to finish anything. I'm feeling pretty useless. I did find a new color that I love for childrens furniture upcycles. Here is a picture of a little set that is ever so slowly getting done.
I haven't decided on all the details yet. To add a silver/pink glaze or distress. But I love the handles. Hopefully I can get up at like 5 am this weekend before the heat hits and finish this set off. There is a mirror that also goes with the set.

Garage sale stuff
Last weekend was a total bust at garage sales but this weekend made up for it. Here are some pictures of the new pieces I picked up. For cheap of course.
I don't usually buy shoes second-hand, call me a snob. But I found these in my size and they called my name. The price all but knocked my off my feet. $0.50 !! Say what?!?! I wore them out that night with husband for date night and they hurt. Look at the platform. I'm already a tall girl but these were over the top. Love the details. I didn't even wait to get them home and cleaned up before I took this picture.
Have a great week.

Some new things
Just some pieces that I'm going to be working on. I have to make myself get out to the garage. Never mind it is 110* with humidity at 30%. Swampbutt! Sorry if that offends it's just the truth. Have a great weekend.
Antique Dixie commode. Love the retro lines.
A big heavy coffee table that I haven't quite figured out what I'm going to do it yet.
A great dresser set with mirror that I have already finished! (In my mind) lol
A mission style lift top coffee table redo with expresso stain finish on top. Painted and glazed. Just waiting for finish poly coat.

Tuesday already?
So I sold the tin dresser on Friday and I will have to say it was a big learning experience. Metallic paint is so finicky. I of course, turned around and bought 3 more pieces to put in my already full garage. I have really been getting into couponing lately. It saves me loads of money but it also feeds my anal need to organize and review numbers. Happy Tuesday!

I'm so far behind on everything. I had wonderful intentions to really dive into learning how to make my blog better. After a pit stop in Indiana I had a hell of a time trying to get back on track. It's been so hot in Arizona that it has made it impossible to be out in the garage sanding, painting, sealing and working. I've been feeling guilty about not keeping up. And at the same time I am still wanting to be creative in other ways. I love to cook, paint, write, read and so I've realized that I should turn this into a all purpose blog! I can write about things other than the furniture which for the time being has taken a back seat. I'm still picking up super pieces. Fourteen+ projects that sit just waiting for a little cooler weather. Creative madness mess, here I come!! :)
Garage sales
I love going to garage sales on Saturday with the family. My husband finds some of the best furniture to redo. Anyway here are a few gems that I picked up.
Love the vintage stand and scroll work on the lamp bases. Have a great weekend!

Back in action.
So after a terribly busy last two months May is finally coming to a end. I'm recovering from surgery. We also had my daughters 1st birthday party this weekend. I totally plan on devoting more time to learning how to make this a better blog. Cleaning out the garage/work area this weekend and ready for some fresh perspective!

I'm just a bad blogger.
I need help, I'm not very good at the technical stuff. I don't even know if I have anyone subscribed. Always wonder if people don't leave comments because they hate my stuff or because I'm not set up to receive comments. I am going to get better at the end of May. Or try to. I even bought a book. lol Ok so here is my newest project. Still needs a finish coat on the main part of the vanity but I am just so excited to put it up.

Oh I have a new love! This pair of antique C.B Atkins chairs are over 100 years old. When we were reupholstering we found hand forged square nails and 4 different fabrics. I will write more when I get a chance here is a just a quick after shot. The actual color has a bit more teal in I have to wait to get them out into natural light to take better pictures.
These are for sale on craigslist.

The newest additon
This dresser was hell. That's just about all I can say. I used Martha S paint and beyond putting it on with a spray gun, trying to get a even coat was horrible. Anyways, here is the before.
After many "ugggghs" I finally finished and listed. I think it turned out great I just know better for next time that metallic is not my thing. Here is the after.

My opinion on spray primer
I'm just comparing the two major Krylon and Rust-oleum. Absolutely hands down the winner is Rust-oleum. It provided 2-3 more coverage and better. It took a whole can of the Krylon to cover a small plant stand and not that well. I used 1 can of the Rust-oleum for one large dresser and drawers. Now this is just the primer I don't have an opinion on the regular paint.....YET. lol

Happy Monday! This past week I sold my favorite piece and although it made me sad to see it go I was able to purchase a much needed item. A spray gun! This bad boy is cutting down on my priming time. Now if the wind would just go away I could get some things done. I finished a little plant stand and listing on craigslist.

We needed a dining room set. The pub height one just isn't cutting it for two little ones. We bought a wooden table and chairs from craigslist that was pretty dirty. I painted them real quick and went about to learn how to reupholster for the first time. So here are the chairs before and after. Not to bad for a first timer.
